Posázaví has been attracting visitors for decades. It was here that the first tramp settlements were established, traces of which can still be found today along the Posázaví Trail – the oldest nature trail in the Czech Republic, opened in 1965. At its stops, you will learn interesting facts about the local nature, the Sázava River, the history of tramping, and the construction of the famous railway track called the Posázavský Pacifik.

The Posázavský Pacifik railway line is one of the biggest attractions in the area. This remarkable piece of engineering runs from Prague to Čerčany, passing through 15 tunnels and over 8 bridges along the way. The most famous bridge, the Žampach Viaduct, spans the Kocour Valley on seven arches and, at a height of 41 meters, is the highest railway bridge in the Czech Republic.

The adit of St. Josef in Dolní Studené above the Kocour valley is definitely worth a visit. About 200 meters of former gold-bearing tunnels from the 13th and 14th centuries are open to the public – from the period when coins were minted in the local royal town of Jílové. On the square in Jílové, you can visit the ,,Dům mince” with a museum of gold mining and a permanent exhibition on tramping in the Posázaví region.

If you prefer an active holiday, head to Týnec nad Sázavou, where you can rent a raft or canoe and float down one of the most beautiful water routes in Czechia. The final stop is usually Pikovice, from where you can comfortably return by train.

There are many castles in the surrounding area. We recommend you visit the Castle Český Šternberk, Castle Ledeč nad Sázavou, or Castle Jemniště. Melechov Hill also offers a pleasant trip with the ruins of a medieval castle and beautiful views of the surrounding area.
